Board Parent By - Election 2024

Jacqueline Wee —

Kia ora e te whānau, parents and caregivers

As you may be aware, we have a vacancy for a parent representative on our board of trustees following the tragic passing of Joe Benbow last year. The Board has decided to fill this vacancy by holding an election.

We have employed CES to undertake the election process on our behalf. Our nomination form and full instructions on how to place your nomination into our School’s Election website will be emailed to you if we have your email address in our database or you will receive it by post if we don’t have your email in our database.

Nomination papers are also be available at the school office. The school will send those on to CES for processing upon receipt from candidates.

Nominations close on Friday 8th March 2024 at 12 noon. Election day is Friday 12 April 2024.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for governance of the school. The Board:

  • ensures every student can reach their highest possible standard in student achievement
  • is the employer of all staff in the school
  • sets the school's strategic direction in consultation with parents, whānau, staff, students and the wider school community
  • is responsible for overseeing the management of personnel, curriculum, property, finance and administration

The Principal is the board's chief executive in relation to the school's control and management. The Principal is required to comply with the board's general policy directions; but has complete discretion to manage the school on a day to day basis. As such, the Board governs the school but day to day management is the responsibility of the Principal.

The Board has assessed the skills that it currently has around the table and has identified the following as being particularly desirable:

  • financial and/or commercial acumen
  • experience in successfully leading change
  • a focus on ensuring every student at the school is able to attain their highest possible standard in educational achievement
  • diversity and an appreciation of the Board's obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi

If you are interested in putting your name forward for nomination, please feel free to contact either Phil McIntosh (Acting Principal) or me to learn more about the role.
