Message from the Principal

Phil McIntosh —

E te whānau, tēnā koutou katoa,

Our thoughts continue to be with the Kelly and Benbow families at this difficult time.

If you or your child wish to send a message to Conrad or his family, please send this in an email to James Appleton or myself. We can also facilitate the sharing of cards as well. I know Conrad has enjoyed reading the messages of support that he has been sent over the past few weeks. There is also a condolence book set up in the boardroom for Joe and his family. Please feel free to pop into the school office if you would like to leave a message.

We understand that some students may be experiencing grief at this time, and we are committed to finding ways to support our tamariki. If you feel your child needs any extra support, please get in touch with a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Here are some alternative contact numbers that may be useful:

Last week we were excited about Te Wiki o te Reo Māori / Māori Langauge Week. Te Wiki o te Reo Māori supports a number of curriculum principles, including Treaty of Waitangi, cultural diversity, and inclusion. This special week provides students with the opportunity to explore the values of equity and diversity and learn one of our country's official languages. Students who learn te reo Māori and te ao Māori can make use of key competencies and achieve learning outcomes described in the learning languages and social sciences learning areas.

As you will be aware, contractors are now on site and have begun to prepare the fencing. Demolition of Room 25 will begin next week. Whilst we acknowledge that there will be some disruption, the contractors are working under strict conditions that consider the safety and well-being of our tamariki. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Karori Normal School will be holding a final staff-only day on Friday November 24. This day has been set aside to help teachers understand the common practice model and Te Mātaiaho/ refreshed curriculum. The common practice model has been designed to ensure all teachers have the same understanding of how to teach the essential skills, starting with looking at the principles and evidence-informed approaches for teaching literacy, communication and maths.

Ngā mihi nui
