Summary of 6 April 2022 BoT meeting

The KNS Board met by Zoom before the school holidays, on 6 April.

Deputy Principals Phil McIntosh and James Appleton presented an analysis of progress and achievement of KNS tamariki in 2021 in reading, writing and maths. KNS has again exceeded its target of 90% of children overall at or above the expected curriculum levels. Bearing in mind the continuing Covid-related disruption in 2021, the Board felt this was an outstanding result. KNS continues to work hard to ensure that every child is progressing, and that ‘the whole child’ is celebrated (not just achievement in numeracy and literacy).

The Board also discussed the school’s Covid response. During term 1, KNS rose to the challenge of providing continuity of learning during this phase of the pandemic. But the Board recognises that it was a difficult term. Every day was different. Classroom teachers had to adapt depending on who was in front of them in the classroom on any given day. The hybrid learning model, with some tamariki in the classroom and some at home, stretched the school’s resources. The Board would like to acknowledge the hard mahi of all staff last term, and hopes they all had a relaxing break over the school holidays.

The Board’s next meeting will be on 18 May 2022, at 6.30pm. The agenda for the meeting will be published on the school’s website a day or two before the meeting. Board meetings are open to the public (the May meeting is likely to also be by Zoom).
