Message from the Principal

Jacqueline Wee —

Kia ora tātou

Welcome back to KNS for Term 2. Although we are operating at the orange setting of the COVID Protection Framework (CPF), we have had a very settled start to the term. Thank you for supporting the orange setting measures outlined in the message sent last Friday.

Please remember to continue to inform us office@kns.school.nz if your child tests positive for COVID.

We were able to hold an indoor, Team Totara, Year 7 & 8, hui this morning. I am very proud of our older children, they are wonderful caring, role models to our younger students. It was great to be able to tell them this and to hear about their upcoming plans for Pink Shirt Day, which will be held on Friday 20 May, Pink Shirt Day .

Wonderful also, to see that children are gearing up for winter sport. Our teams have begun cross-country training, early morning netball practices are in full swing and footballs are replacing cricket bats in the playground. Thank you to those of you who are helping out with teams, both at KNS and local clubs. Children can only develop a love of sport and the many benefits this brings, because of the efforts of the many volunteers who ensure opportunities are there for the children. I still remember John Lees, my first cricket coach, and Jim Morrison, my first rugby coach, they introduced me to sport and a lifetime of enjoyment, many decades ago.

Traditional sports seem to be experiencing a drop off in participation numbers and I wonder whether this is because adults sometimes forget that children mostly want to play sport for enjoyment and to be with their friends. I am very supportive of the following message that was recently posted on the KNS Netball Facebook page:

  • Please remember
  • These are kids
  • This is a game
  • The coaches are volunteers
  • The umpires are human
  • This is not the world cup

As always if you need any support or have any questions, please contact one of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT):
