Message from the Principal

Jacqueline Wee —

Kia ora tātou

Yesterday I had the privilege of attending our Kāhui Ako’s Whakawhanaungatanga Festival, hosted by Wellington College. After a Mihi Whakatau, welcome, from Wellington College each of the nine schools’ cultural groups performed for each other. The standard of performance, across all schools, was outstanding, including wonderful waiata from our KNS Kapa Haka group. Highlights for me were:

  • The stunning performance from our Kapa Haka Extension Group, I was incredibly proud of the 70+ children from KNS who took part. They have worked extremely hard and deserved the ovation they got when they finished.
  • The huge contribution of Hemi Prime, our Kapa Haka Tutor. Hemi also worked with the groups from Northland and Wadestown Schools.
  • The respect from all schools for each other’s performance, each group got plenty of loud, genuine audience support. The spirit of cooperation and collaboration between the nine schools was clearly evident. It is great to see all schools wanting all schools to be strong and providing high quality opportunities for their children.
  • The performances from Wellington College and Wellington Girls’ College, it was great for our children to see what continued dedication and commitment can lead to, and wonderful to see so many ex-KNS ‘kids’ still involved. We are building a strong, uninterrupted pathway, for KNS children from Year 1 all the way to Year 13.

A huge thank you to Wilhelmina Wooff, Adrienne Troughton, Hemi Prime and Fiona Campbell for their organisation, time and effort, which made our children’s participation possible. We are very fortunate to have such dedicated and skilled people as part of our staff team.
