Message from the Principal

Jacqueline Wee —

Tālofa lava

As you are probably aware, this week is Samoan language week, I hope that you have had the chance to share some of your children’s learning.

Yesterday I attended the Western Zone Cross Country held at Karori Park. A team of 58 runners represented KNS, in less than ideal conditions. Congratulations to those runners who came in the top ten in their event, they will now go on to run at the Interzone Cross Country later in the term.

I was very impressed by the effort of all the KNS runners, how they supported each other and enjoyed each others’ successes. They showed real determination and perseverance in all completing the course, despite the wet and muddy conditions. I was extremely proud with the way that children who came 11th and 12th in their races, coped with the disappointment of almost making the Interzone event but not quite getting there, this is not easy but they showed a lot of resilience and a great sporting attitude.

On the theme of helping children build resilience, please note the evening of Wednesday 29 June in your diaries. Kathryn Berkett , the keynote speaker at our Term 1 Kāhui Ako Staff only Day, will be speaking at the Allan Gibbs Centre at Wellington College on 29/06/2022. This event is being organised by our Kāhui Ako and is for all parents/caregivers of the nine member schools. More details will be coming out shortly, but I urge you to attend if you can.

Whakataukī o te wiki (Proverb of the Week)

· Pena ka haere tonu, a te wā ka taea, ka mau. - You will get there if you just keep going.

Today’s alagaupu is:

· “E māmā se avega pe ā tā amo fa’atasi”My strength does not come from me alone, but from many.

A thought to share with your children:

· “The greatest mistake you can make in life is to be continually fearing you will make a mistake.” (Elbert Hubbard)
