Message from the Principal

Conrad Kelly —

Welcome back to the second term of the 2023 school year and a special welcome to those whanau who are new to our school.

E te whānau, tēnā koutou katoa,

Huge congratulations to the two teams who represented KNS so well at the Wellington Literature Quiz, held in the last week of last term. 48 teams from primary and intermediate schools across Wellington took part, with one of our teams coming first and the other team placing a very creditable 16th. These outstanding placings are the result of much hard work, preparation, teamwork and above all, loving reading, reading, reading ….. The winning team will now go on to represent Wellington at the New Zealand Lit Quiz in June. You can find out more in the Lit Quiz report in this newsletter.

Many thanks to Mary Callister, our librarian for preparing the teams so well. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful librarian at KNS. Mary’s fantastic work promoting literature, encouraging a love of reading and constantly seeking out new and engaging books for our tamariki, makes her an invaluable part of our staff team. Thanks also to Vicki Wood for her support of Mary and the teams.

Congratulations also to 17 year-old, Riana Pho, who has recently been selected as part of the NZ Women’s Hockey Team, currently playing in a tournament against Australia and Great Britain. Riana joined KNS as a Year 6 in 2015 before moving to Wellington Girls’ College in 2018. Wonderful to see Riana’s hard work recognised at the highest level.

PTA AGM Tonight – 7.30pm in the Staffroom

Our PTA holds their AGM in the staffroom tonight, commencing at 7.30pm. The AGM will be followed by the PTA’s regular monthly meeting. Our PTA continues to do great work in community building and fundraising and we are very grateful for their ongoing support and hard work. New members are always welcome to attend, “many hands make light work”.

Please remember there is still time for your children to enter the PTA’s annual Wētā Workshop Creativity Competition, entries close on Sunday 07 May.

As always if you need any support or have any questions, please contact one of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT):

A thought to share with your children:
