Message from the Principal

Kia ora tātou

The last week has seen us get together for two whole school events and a community working bee.

Last Wednesday we held our school cross-country/fun run at Ben Burn Park. It was great to be able to get together as a whole school, along with parents/caregivers and the weather played its part as well. A huge thank you to our organisers Annie Kenning, Bhavik Patel and Harriet Donald and the many parent/caregiver volunteers. There was a real sense of community and support for all our tamariki. Everyone involved thoroughly enjoyed the morning, which culminated in a fun-run around the park. Congratulations to the first six runners in Year 4 to 8 who will now go on to represent KNS in the Western Zone Cross Country.

On Friday, KNS was a sea of pink and bright colours, as we celebrated ‘Pink Shirt Day’. It was great see our children and staff making it clear that we all want KNS to be an inclusive place, where diversity is celebrated, and all people feel safe, valued and respected. Our Team Totara, Year 7 & 8s, once again stepped up and showed amazing positive leadership in our school community. I get the impression that our younger children want to be like Team Totara one day.

The PTA held a very successful working bee on Sunday 22 May, around 30 families took part and carried out a wide range of much needed tasks around the grounds. A huge thank you to Helena Court, Anna Grant, Petra McElrea and Shireen Maindonald for their wonderful organisation and to all who took part for their hard work. We are very fortunate to have such a supportive parent/caregiver community.
