KNS Wētā Workshop Creativity Competition Results!

Congratulations to the 77 entrants for their diverse creative submissions to the Wētā Workshop Creativity Competition! We are very grateful to our talented KNS Judging Panel for their time and enthusiasm. Jeannie, Raj & Veronica said it was a pleasure to go through such wonderful and varied work.

The four Supreme Award Winners have each won a Wētā Workshop Experience Family Pass (which combines the original WētāCave Workshop Tour & the Miniature Effects Tour). Thanks so much, once again, to Wētā Workshop for their generous donation of prizes!

The prizes were split across year group categories, and entrants names were removed for the judging process. The winning entries, along with other shortlisted entries, can be viewed here.

Last week two of the judges (Jeannie & Veronica) joined Mr Kelly to present prizes with certificates to the four Supreme Award Winners and certificates to the Special Mention entrants. See the KNS Facebook post on the presentations here. (noticed continued below)

Kids Art Works Calendar Fundraiser - ORDERS OPEN NOW

At the end of last term the students have been busy creating beautiful artwork ready to be turned into high quality calendars, greeting cards, sketchbooks, diaries and mouse pads.

Your child’s artwork is now available for viewing online.

Details on how to view your child’s artwork and how to place your order have recently been sent home on a printed order form (they might still be in your child’s school bag).

Samples of the products available are located in the school office for you to view.

Last day for orders is Sunday 28 August.

All orders are made through the Kids Artwork website as per the instructions on the printed order form.

Please do not send orders or cash to school.

The calendars and other products will be ready later in the term and make great Christmas presents!

If you wish to order items using photos, you can do this through the website. Select “upload photo” after entering your child’s code. Also note that photos need to be landscape orientation and cropped exactly how you’d like them to be on the final product.

If you don’t have your printed order form, please contact Tom Percy at tapercy@gmail.com for your log-in code.

This is one of the PTA’s largest fundraisers, providing valuable resources for our teachers and students at KNS so we thank you for your generous support.

KNS Wētā Workshop Creativity Competition Results - Continued….

Supreme Award Winners, Special Mentions and what the Judges had to say about them:

Year 1-2:

  1. Supreme Award Winner – ‘Volcano with a tunnel and dinosaurs’ by James, Yr 2: “We loved everything about this cleverly designed landscape! From the dinosaur eating leaves to the half-submerged Brontosaurus in the lake, the little details really made this piece a standout. Very well done!”

  • Special Mention – Caleb, Yr 2: “What a marvellous creation! It demonstrates a wonderful imagination and a crafting ability that is beyond compare. Loved the smooth transition from aquarium to chicken area! Details like the wee door and Covid 19 social distancing spots were great. Caleb's on camera presentation was top notch too!"

  • Special Mention – ‘Orla’s Ice Cream Shop’ by Orla, Yr 2: “This was an ice cream shop we all believed in immediately, and the closer we looked, the more its details drew us in. E.g. the different-flavoured ice blocks, the seller’s cash register, the customer reaching for the bell, all beautifully imagined.”

Year 3-4:

  1. Supreme Award Winner – ‘Gangster Guineas’ (1st 2 chapters) by Katie, Yr 4: "Katie has written an extremely inventive tale, with mischievous characters and fantastic dialogue. We were all very impressed by the amount of detail in this story. Well done!”

  • Special Mention – ‘Goblinton’ Collage by Jack, Yr 3: "Very clever use of medium. Jack built an entire world on beautiful wallpaper samples, where the closer you looked, the more you discovered! Incredible attention to detail which really drew us into Goblinton."

  • Special Mention –The Fairy's Hideout’ by Lucy, Yr 3: "Exquisite choice of materials. The colours and placement of the pieces give a simply breathtaking design. We all imagined proudly displaying this beautiful artwork on our walls!"

Year 5-6:

  1. Supreme Award Winner – A Minor piece 'A Blue Star' composed and played on piano by Haoyuan, Yr 6: "We were all in awe of the number of things Haoyuan achieved within such a short piece: its haunting melody, the quality of the performance, and how it felt like a complete piece in its own right, linking all its motifs and bringing them full circle."

  • Special Mention –A day in the life of Casper’ by Cleo, Yr 6: "We loved this story for its many wonderful details, its humour, and most of all, the care with which the writer must have observed and thought about their dog to be able to show us so convincingly the world through Casper’s eyes. A real triumph!"

  • Special Mention – ‘Watercolour Giraffe’ by Ruby, Yr 5: "This is such an impressive painting. There is so much skill evident in the use of watercolours, the balancing of lights and darks, in the shape of the face, the expressiveness of the eyes and attention to other details. We loved this giraffe!"

Year 7-8:

  1. Supreme Award Winner – ‘Air dry clay sculpture with acrylic paint (and false eyelashes )’ by Scarlett, Year 7: "This striking artwork immediately caught our attention. Not only are the materials expertly used but there is also a surreal element of the unexpected which takes this piece to the next level!"

  • Special Mention – ‘100% original Lego sculptures of 4 different birds’ by Alfie, Yr 8: "The form of these birds has been carefully observed and accurately translated into incredible little sculptures. We were amazed to see such a likeness created from Lego!"

  • Special Mention – ‘Cottage’ by Katie, Yr 7: "This picture paints a thousand words and we could really get a sense of the character who might live there. From its intricate line details to the way the green paint splatters from the tree or bleeds down from the grass, Katie has created a very atmospheric scene.
