AIMS Games 2019

Juliet Dunlop-Fraser —

Another AIMS Games has come and gone. With nearly 12,000 participants this local sports festival for Year 7 and 8 students continues to grow and offer opportunities for intermediate students to participate and compete.

This year a new yachting code, rock climbing and mountain biking were added to the sports list. Ben Tanner has worked hard to gain the qualifications necessary to compete in the O'pen Bic yachting class and finished 27th from 35, while Kristy Cooper took on rock-climbing as well as competing in the MTB along with 4 team-mates, Claire Williams, Josh McGinty, Cory Holmes and Cameron Gilbert. Other individual competitors included Taurian McConnochie in badminton, Alexander Stone and Malinga Taulani in table tennis as well as four squash players; Hamish Tanner, Justus Chase, Charlotte Tanner and Kaylie Clark. India Pointon competed in the gymnastics and MaryJane Erceg-Hume and Matthew Graney competed in the indoor bowls, with MaryJane qualifying for the singles finals and both qualifying for the pairs finals. We also had teams in the cross-country, boys & girls futsal, rugby 7s, netball and hockey 6s. All of the competitors worked really hard to prepare for the games helped by dedicated coaches and managers from our school and community. Our best result came from our boys hockey 6s. The team comprised Captain Theo Turnwald, goalie Logan Parrott as well as Leo Willacy, Lucas Moka, Benji Arundel, James McKeran, Fletcher Anderson, Daniel McKeran and Murdoch Cameron. They won 7-3 winners in the bronze medal play-off.
