Oceans 2019 is the national surf life saving championships for athletes aged from 10-14.

Thirteen young athletes from Katikati College were part of the 25 strong team that spent four days at Mount Maunganui beach competing in a range of events on the sand and in the water as part of Oceans 19.

Tammy Richardson claimed a bronze medal. Tammy ran a great sprint leg to help her relay team claim bronze in the U14 mixed beach relay. 

Another highlight of the competition was the large number of athletes making finals, with Meg Harray and Jenna Pooley finishing in the top ten in New Zealand. Meg came 6th in the U13 Womens Board Race and Jenna finished 9th in the U12 Womens Run Swim Run and 10th in the U12 Womens Diamond Race.

Other Katikati College athletes who participated in the event were Keaton White, Pete Buckley, Corey A’Bear, Leo Morley, Gemma Groenewald, Rosie Swain, Luc Rochat, Jack Harray, Joe Buckley and Rosie Morley.
