Students participate in Model United Nations

Chloe McDonald-Nairn —

Katikati College entered three teams into this year's Model United Nations in Tauranga.

The Model UN is a one day conference where students participate in a mock UN Security Council including an unfolding international crisis. Against a ticking clock and some unpredictable events, they negotiate a resolution to end the crisis and restore peace.

It is an opportunity to explore the culture and politics of another country and discuss solutions to some of the very real current world issues.

Our representatives at this conference were:

Madeleine Schnackenberg, Jessica Meade (Zimbabwe)

Silas Abler, Carolynne Guy-Taylor, Rose Rayner (Switzerland)

Phoebe Robertson, Brecon Cameron (Nepal)

Katikati students were recognised in the prize-giving at the end of the conference with our representatives from Nepal being chosen 'most popular team'.
