Year 11 and 12 Engineering projects

Hamish Carr —

As the end of the year approaches for our senior classes a number of projects are coming to an end. This year for the first time the Year 11 Engineering students undertook an electric vehicle as their project.

The "Drift Kart" is an ideal design for electric power, with a top speed of just 15 km/hr. The fun comes by activating the drift handle. This removes the castor effect from the rear wheels and allows the front drive wheel to turn the kart in many ways, often with the rear overtaking the front. Some skill is required to drive the karts and it is encouraging to see students master this. Well done to all students in the Year 11 class.

Students have a choice of projects at Year 12 and we have seen motorbikes, drift trikes, go karts and even a ski bike produced over the year. Well done to the Year 12 students on their projects and their commitment to seeing it through.
