Clay Target Shooting

Juliet Dunlop-Fraser —

Ryan Crapp will be representing New Zealand after a stunning effort in the recent NZ DTL Championships in Christchurch in March. Together with team-mate Brad Jeffrey they shot in the disciplines of Single Rise, Point Score and Single Barrell.

Both boys had a great tournament with Brad taking a lot from the experience and shooting well. The week belonged to Ryan however with an outstanding shoot following on from his successes last year.

In the Beretta NZ Points Score discipline, he won the Beretta Points Score Trophy with a 1st place for Juniors and 2nd place for AA grade with a 74. He also qualified for the North Island Junior Team in the North-South Shoot and he and his team of 3 beat the South 210-201.

Once all scores were accumulated at the end of the week it was announced that he had qualified for both NZ Mackintosh Teams - the Open (all shooters) and the Junior (U21) World Team. Ryan has decided to shoot in the Open team so will collect his NZ silver fern and his International Team Emblems. The Mackintosh is a world shoot with all countries shooting in their own national event at different times of the year. It will now take several months for all countries to complete their own Mackintosh team shoots to determine the winners.

From all scores for the last 3 days of competition they also selected the top 3 scores for an Open team and a Junior team to now compete in the Oceania Event held in Auckland in April over 3 days. This event will take in the top shooters from Australia, NZ and the Pacific.

Congratulations to Ryan for his outstanding efforts which, following his selection will see him receive an Olympic team emblem.
