Innovative Horticulture

Hilary Johnson —

Our Innovative Horticulture building is coming along nicely.  Despite a lot of very wet weather, even before the cyclone, progress on the new Innovative Horticulture building is now steady.

The old prefab building was demolished for recycling in November 2022. Unfortunately we also had to remove our small kiwifruit orchard, but we are keen to put in some new vines in a different place. The concrete pad was poured in early December and the framework went up soon after. Work paused over the Christmas period and the roof went on and the building was wrapped just before the arrival of Cyclone Gabrielle.

Everything needs to dry out properly and once the building is enclosed work can proceed with more certainty. Windows, doors and walls are ready to go up.

Students have built new raised beds to replace those that had to be removed to make way for the new building.

The planned handover date is mid April.
