3 Medals for our NZ Hockey Stars!

Angela Macdonald —

Three staff members from Katikati College were selected to represent New Zealand at the FIH Hockey Masters World Cup held in Canberra over 2 weeks from 29th March.

This is one of the largest hockey tournaments in the world with 70 teams from all over the globe traveling to compete. New Zealand had a strong contingent fielding teams in all age groups for both women and men.

Jill Tran Van was selected for the W60 team , Sandy Kindley in the W50 and Juliet Dunlop-Fraser in the W45.

Playing at the National Hockey Centre with 3 water turfs and great facilities was a real pleasure for the Katikati players.

Despite tough matches in the Australian heat, all the NZ Women's teams won medals with Jill's team bringing home a Gold medal, after beating England in the W60 final.  Juliet came home with Silver after her team had to go to a penalty shootout to decide the winner against Australia and went down 4-3. Sandy's W50 team played off against Wales to bring home a Bronze.

Jill, Sandy and Juliet are particularly grateful for the support the College has given them and thank everyone for all their messages while they were away.

We are very proud of you all.
