Nau mai, haere mai, welcome to our new library!

Ann Murphy —

Finally after six and a half weeks of enormous effort, a keen group of staff, students and members of the community gathered to open our new library.

The opening karakia was offered by Tamarangi Ahomiro and Matua Hohepa Samuels blessed the new space. They were supported by our Pou Arahi, Joe Manukau, and the Tuakana from Poutama. Mrs Pentecost welcomed students into the new library, reminding them it was their space to use across the school and thanked the many people who had contributed to the project. Mrs Colette Lemon, who was a member of the Board of Trustees which planned the refurbishment, talked about the history that had led up to this point. We then cut the ribbon and the assembled students, including our student leaders, Tuakana and Aiga groups and Student Librarians were able to see our lovely new room with its new carpet, new shelving and new furniture.

Our thanks go to the Board of Trustees who supported our vision, and the many members of the school staff who worked hard to make it happen. We are also grateful for advice from Gail Cochrane from National Library. My special thanks go to Mrs Diane Dobson and the Student Librarians who worked so hard to put everything back.
