Pasifika Night

Helen Willacy —

Hours of practice paid off for members of the Pasifika Group last Thursday night with a energetic, joyous evening of entertainment and celebration of Pacific Island culture.

Tongan pastor and dad Simione Vakasiuola opened the evening in prayer and the Kapa Haka group began the night on an impressive note. The Pasifika Group programme included dances from Samoa, Tonga and poignant solos by our students who are leaving this year - Katiloka Lutui, Daizy Frost, Paelata Vi and Shania Pafalani. The crowd were very moved by Atu Lolohea's solo in honour of her brother Eliesa and it was wonderful to see the support they received from their friends and community.

Daizy Frost led the whole group in a exuberant sasa to complete the evening's entertainment. Samoan pastor Mr Tuimaualuga closed the proceedings in prayer and everyone was treated to an Island feast to finish the evening.

The Pasifika Group would like to thank the Lutui family for their generous donation and Daizy Frost and Katiloka Lutui for their outstanding leadership this year. Thanks also to Greg and Taine for excellent sound and lighting, former students Kalisi Tu'uholoaki and Aisake Taulani for their tutoring and Kalisi and Lyrics Tuimaualuga for drumming.

Malo 'aupito. Malie!
