Pink Shirt Day

Louise Buckley —

At Katikati College we celebrate Pink Shirt Day with a mufti day where students are encouraged to wear pink. This year we raised $910 which will go towards the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand.

Pink Shirt Day is celebrated annually all around the world. Pink Shirt Day began in Canada in 2007 when two students took a stand against homophobic bullying, mobilising their whole school, after a peer was bullied for wearing a pink shirt.

We also have an on-going focus on looking after others through our Citizenship value of 'Taking Care of Others'.  Each Form Class has a Bully Buster Representative whose role involves being another person that students can talk to if they have concerns over how others are treating them.

Thank you to all staff and students who supported this day.
