BOP Futsal (Indoor Football) Championship
On Wednesday 25th May Katikati College sent 3 teams to the BOP SS Futsal Championship.
BOP FUTSAL (INDOOR FOOTBALL) CHAMPIONSHIP
The Katikati Junior team comprising Finn Niziolek, Reuben Johnson, Liam Capper, Tane Mather, Jacob Maloni, Nikolai Frandi, Brodie Stacey, Nathan Leggatt and Jackson Christie, competed well playing up in the Year 9 and 10 Intermediate division. After winning 2 out of 3 pool games with some great goals, they progressed to 3rd place playoff. Unfortunately they were beaten by a strong team from Whakatane who used their height and strength to good advantage to secure 3rd place. However 4th overall was a great achievement and they are looking forward to competing again next year.
The Katikati Senior Gold team was made up of Yr 11 and 12 boys who punched well above their weight and were competing against teams made up of Yr 13 students. Strong attacking from Jaxon Stacey, Jake Hannah and Anthony Jones kept the team ahead and they were able to maintain this in each game to remain unbeaten in pool play. They were ably backed up by Otis Burrell-Ellery, Patrick Vallely, Jacob Topp, Joe Niziolek and Shaun Coxhead who did an outstanding job as goalie. This put the team straight through to the final against Tauranga Boys College. After putting in a valiant effort they had to be content with second place overall.
Katikati Senior Green was represented by Yr 13 students who put together a team just a week before the tournament. Their first game against Trident 1 was very entertaining with great goals coming from Steen Madsen and Kieren Jack to clinch a draw. A hard fought second game resulted in a loss but a strong win in game 3 put them in the play off for 4th . Sadly the team lost but not after some great goals from Peter Saetvedt, who scored 11 goals on the day, and Jayden Van Timmeren. Harry Dobbs and Caleb Ibbotson rounded out the team with Caleb under constant pressure as goalie.
Well done to our Futsal Teams!
