Robotics scrimmage hosted by Katikati College

Hamish Carr —

On Saturday September 8 we were pleased to host one of the four local rounds of robotics scrimmages. The event was held in the College hall and was well attended by a number of schools and students from the House of Science.

The intermediate section, known as VEX IQ, saw some great alliances with scores of 15 to 17 proving some of the best. While a scrimmage is about learning and having fun it was great to see some of the Katikati College teams gaining good scores.

The VEX EDR teams had a friendly competition with an emphasis on sharing ideas, building and then refining ideas while having access to the playing arena and game pieces. Our students are looking forward to getting some mentoring from experienced senior students from Otumoetai College.

The future of robotics is looking very good with a recently formed parent group leading the fundraising activities.

I would like to thank all the parents for their support and Sea Scouts for the cake sale on the day.
