Showquest Internship

Christina Hewett, Year 13 —

In June 2021 I had the privilege of being selected as an intern for the performing arts company Showquest when they came to Tauranga.

The day was full of running up and down stairs and making sure people were in the right place at the right time.

When I first got there I was introduced to some of the team and was told to shadow someone and learn everything. One of my first jobs were to show some schools back to their dressing rooms.

Later on in the day Sarah who was one of the crew members and I went and got lunch from Bayfair but then we realised they ordered it from the wrong shop, so we went back to TECT Arena and kept going with our jobs, then our lunch arrived but we had to keep going.

As it got to night time people were starting to arrive and I was running around making sure the schools were in the right place at the right time and not late for their performance. Towards the end of the night Katikati College finally got to go on stage and I was up on the second level and as they announced them I yelled as loud as I could "Go Katikati!" It was so amazing seeing it from a different perspective and I was so proud.

During the prizegiving I was in the wings watching as they announced the awards. We won Best Lighting, Best Costume, Best Drama and Third overall in the Bay of Plenty. I’d like to thank Shannon Dean and Sonia Bullot for being the teachers in charge and also to my co captains, Makayla Managh, Natalia House, Ella Bullot, Caitlin Addison and Sofia House for helping run it and organizing everything.
