Robotics activities

Hamish Carr —

The robotics club was adversely impacted by Covid-19 in 2020, however since August we have managed to attend 3 local scrimmages. In each event the teams have learnt lessons on design, driving and programming.

The scores are steadily increasing and all are learning to work cooperatively within an alliance. The most recent scrimmage was held over Labour Weekend with Katikati College hosting both VEX IQ (Years 7 to 9) and VEX VRC (Years 10 to 13). I was so impressed by our VEX VRC team. Sam and Jack have worked independently on their robot with a little moral support from Lily over the past two terms. At the scrimmage they competed and both Sam and Lily did a good job driving the robot. Jack is a whizz with the programming and Sam is great with electronics and structures. The Vex IQ competition was well attended with nine teams from various schools. It was fantastic to see Joe and Zak come through the finals with the highest alliance score.
