BOP Junior Ki o Rahi Tournament

Juliet Dunlop-Fraser —

The 2nd annual Junior Ki o Rahi tournament was held at Katikati College on Wednesday 30th November. This traditional Māori game which has taken hold of the imagination of our juniors in recent years is fiercely contested as an inter-class competition before selections take place to go up against other schools.

This year Te Wharekura o Mauao attended again along with Te Puke High School who sent a team for the first time. The three Girls’ teams played off in very tight games with only one point difference in every game. The Katikati College Aihe (Yr 10 Girls) came out on top winning both their games. The Boys' division was won by Katikati College Tunā (Yr 9 Boys) who scorched around the Papa Tākaro racking up two huge wins over Katikati College Mangō and Te Wharekura o Mauao Boys.

The mixed division was very even with all teams grabbing wins. The final winner was Te Wharekura o Mauao Mixed on count-back.

Well done to all our competitors!
