Bring your own device - information for Year 10-13

Louise Buckley —

Students in Year 10 - 13 need to bring their own device to school. This change was brought in at the start of this year and has been incredibly successful in supporting our students.

The reason for this change is that as we move towards teaching where digital technology is used in all aspects of learning, it becomes essential for students to have their own device. This allows for anytime-anywhere learning, which is authentic, collaborative, personalized and future-focussed.
To support this change our teachers have been involved in professional study for the last four years on how to incorporate e-learning within their teaching programmes. As a result devices are already being used across all curriculum areas for a variety of reasons. Teachers have been developing programmes that have a blended approach. This means that not all activities will be carried out on a device.

To ensure security for devices we have powered lockers available in the Action Centre and Library foyers. We also have security cameras around the school to ensure that we can look for any missing devices. We appreciate that for some families this extra cost will be significant and we have a limited number of devices that we are able to loan to students. If you would like to be considered for one of these devices please contact Louise Buckley at the College: lbuckley@katikaticollege.school.nz to discuss this further.

If as a business or community group you would like to help us support these students please also contact Louise Buckley. We really welcome this sort of support.
