Whole School Assembly

It was great to get together as a whole school to have our final assembly with our senior students. Anouk Sayer kindly stood up to perform and it was nice to give the school the opportunity to appreciate a different style of music that they may listen to but appreciate the exceptional talent and technical skills involved in this type of performance.

Congratulations Anouk for stepping up to perform and I congratulate all our students for being such a respectful audience in appreciating this particular art form.

Senior Assessments

Again our second senior assessment concert went extremely well and it was great to see our students push past their performance anxiety to present their performances to their peers and whanau. They should be very proud of their hard work and dedication to push past these fears and provide a great concert but also achieve their NCEA credits at a high level. Congratulations to all the students and our thanks to all the support they get from their loved ones.

Lip Sync 2022

Finally we were able to do our Lip Sync concert again and although it is not completely finished,  utilise our fabulous new stage that I am sure will be used for many performances and events as we move hopefully into more stable times.

Due to Covid many students did not really know what Lip Sync was so it was great to have the students attend and enjoy this event. Hopefully they will be inspired to give it a go next year.

Congratulations to all those who entered and gave it their all to create an entertaining event, and well done to all the teachers who created such an enjoyable act for our students in such busy times.

A big thank you also goes to our Arts Captains and Tech Crew that make these events happen.

Music Lessons

We have now started working on our 2023 Music Itinerant Programme and have outstanding teachers involved in the programme to guide your students in learning an instrument.

I would like to encourage them to consider signing up for lessons as we now have government funded spaces available for Guitar, Bass, Drums, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Clarinet, Flute, Saxophone, Oboe, Bass Clarinet lessons and also have private lessons available for piano.

If your child is interested in learning any of these please get them to see Mrs Bullot in the Music Room or the student office for the form which you will need to sign then return.

These spaces fill up very quickly especially the guitar and drums. If students don’t get in we will have a waiting list.

It has been great to see some of our instrumentalist students playing around the school the last few weeks at lunchtime to showcase our woodwind and brass instruments.

The lesson cost is $40 for the year to cover reeds, strings and music etc and we also have school instruments for hire.

If you would like further information please don’t hesitate to email me at sbullot@katikaticollege.school.nz

FAREWELLS

To all our Year 13 Music and Year12 students leaving us at the end of this year, we as a department would like to acknowledge you for keeping the music alive throughout such difficult times and the way you have committed so much time and effort into all The Arts events, providing entertainment, sound and lighting for events over the years and inspiring upcoming students.

You will be missed by all of us and we wish you all the best for your future. You all were an integral part of our musical whanau and we look forward to hearing about how you are doing.

Thank you from all of us to Damien Burton, Zaide Farrell, Teancum Osman, Lola Meeking-Coad and Riddell Galbraith. Your contribution to the Arts has been exceptional and it has been a pleasure to walk alongside you in this part of your journey.

Good luck to all students sitting NCEA exams and we would like to wish you and your whanau/families all a safe and joyous holiday season and look forward to all the great achievements, learning experiences and fun we can create next year.
