News from the Music Department

Sonia Bullot —

Again we have had a very busy time in the Music Department preparing for wrapping up our compositions and doing our second assessment performances.

MENTORING PROGRAMME WITH JOEL SHADBOLT

We were very fortunate to have Joel Shadbolt, the lead singer from LAB, work with our students over two days. There was so much learning done by all from the many different workshops to cater for a wide range of our musical students. These included guitar lessons, group/band work, songwriting and composition workshops and vocal training. Our students went away inspired and with more confidence to put into practice what they learnt. We hope to have Joel back again sometime in the future and look forward to listening to his band's new album they are working on at present.

MENTORING WITH THE NZSO

Other exciting news is that four of our Katikati College music students have been selected to be paired up with a member of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra for mentoring. This is a fantastic opportunity for our skilled instrumentalists and I am sure they will learn so much.

Congratulations to Nana Matsubara (flute), Anouk Sayer (Violin), Michael Kean (Trombone) and Jack Smith (Trumpet).

I am looking forward to sharing more exciting news from the music department soon.
