The Winning U14 Rugby Team

U14 Rugby

Juliet Dunlop-Fraser —

The Katikati College U14 Rugby team have been declared the winners of the BOP Rugby Union U14 Championship Division. Having won all their games this year by fairly sizable margins, this well-drilled team was easily the strongest in their league.

Coached by Leander Huiarangi who stepped up when no coach could be found initially, they have grown in maturity and managed to recruit and retain players throughout the season. The strong forward pack has become more sure and tight as they played throughout the winter and set a great platform for their back line.

This was led by example and fine voice by Captain Lesen Huiarangi, leading to many creative running tries. It was great to watch new players Kiahn and Khani Tangi link with Tesimoni Uilou and Desman Reuben from previous years Katikati JMC teams. Though they were unable to play on finals day due to their opponents defaulting, they remain worthy winners.  There will be plenty of great rugby to look forward to at Katikati College in the future.

Well done boys!
