Māori Tourism Cultural Camp

Aroha Koria and Gaylia Bundle —

Recently three of our students attended the Service Skills (ServiceIQ) facilitation of the Māori Tourism Cultural Camp at Rereamanu Marae near Te Kuiti.  They all achieved 20 credits each completing cultural components of Te Ao Māori in Manaakitanga (hospitality), Ako (reciprocal teaching and learning), Rangatiratanga (leadership skills) and Kotahitanga (integrated relationships). On top of this they all gained local knowledge of the area, tikanga and kawa (protocols and customs) of that Marae and region and came away with life long friendships from fellow students as far from Auckland, East Coast and Tainui secondary schools. They all enjoyed their noho (stay) and felt grateful to be part of this kaupapa (purpose and experience of this trip).

Tau ke! Well done to Alex Lund, Lyrique Tahana-Jacob and Taumuri Utikere for your awesome achievements.
