Intermediate hockey wrap-up

Hamish Carr —

Well done to all the Katikati College intermediate hockey teams for your 2020 season and thank you to the parents who supported us with managing the teams.

Thanks must also go to Year 12 student Charlotte Schnackenberg for coaching the Panthers team; a bunch of rumpty energetic lads! Thanks to Eva Freeman, Year 11, and Murdoch Cameron, Year 9. for umpiring the Panthers and Lions respectively. Both teams competed in Division 4. Our top team, the Pumas, competed in Division 1. Many thanks to super coach Mrs Sandy Kindley for her work with the team and ex student Michael Gilliver who helped with coaching and umpired the games. I coached the Lions team and enjoyed their positive attitude and effort throughout the season. They were recognised at the end of the season by the Tauranga Hockey Association giving them the Team Resilience Award.

Bethlehem College hosted a three day tournament which was well received by all involved. Scores took second place to sportsmanship and both Mrs Kindley and I witnessed a lot of personal growth in many of the players. It was a chance for our players to take the field as a boys team and a girls team. My thanks to all the parents who helped with transport and to Anna for her team management and amazing photos.
