Central North Island 420 Sailing Competition

Hamish Carr —

Congratulations to Ben Tanner, Nana Matsubara and Liam Davison who combined with students from Mount Maunganui College to compete at the Central North Island 420 Sailing Competition late last term.

The team had a challenging pool to compete in on the first day and finished with just one win from five starts. This seeded the team in the Silver fleet for the following two days of sailing. It was great to get three full days of sailing on Lake Taupo as it is notorious for its fickle winds. The team took out first place in the Silver Fleet with 9 wins from 10 starts.  It was an amazing accomplishment for the students and a just reward for their efforts at training. I would like to thank Bobbette Tanner for her wonderful support managing the team on and off the water. The team was superbly coached by Lorenz who has unfortunately left the country. He will be missed.
