In the last newsletter we told you about the ball ticket draw for all Year 12 and 13 students “caught” showing really good genuine examples of behaviour or actions which demonstrate ARC. There were an impressive 145 students nominated for this draw, and it was won by Ashleigh Templeton of Year 13.

The ARC focus, school-wide, as we begin Term 3 is self-reflection. Teachers and students are increasingly encouraged to reflect on their goals, their progress and their practice and such reflection is a valuable process in life for all of us.

For students this will mean specifically reflecting on their actions and the impact they have on others.

At our first assembly for the term, our new Principal, Carolyn Pentecost shared with the students how she sees this happening: “We will use the ARC matrix as a framework to collect information from you as Form Classes, in small groups and as individuals. We will zoom in on what Citizenship means, what it looks like at Katikati College and review the benefits to you and the school of being a good citizen. We will give you shared Responsibility of offering solutions, considering options, making decisions, or just making suggestions of how we can do things better. We will ask you about your Aspirations and what we need to do to make these a reality. We will all work together to identify expected levels of behaviour, presentation, reliability and attendance and co-construct consequences when these expectations are exceeded or not met.”
