WAIKATO-BOP ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Malinga Taulani and Blake Stevens competed at Porritt Stadium in Hamilton after excellent performances at the Thames Valley qualifiers.

Malinga had an outstanding day finishing in third in the shot put qualifying for the North Island Championships in Palmerston North throwing 9.69m. She also got through to the second round in the discus (not her speciality) in terrible conditions throwing and finishing in fifth in a very strong Senior Girls discus field.

Blake was in a very competitive age-group in Junior Boys and though he came in nineth in Triple Jump and eleventh in 800m there was very little between the first and last competitor. One of the few bare-foot competitors he competed really well.

NZSS Open Water Championships
