Katikati College will celebrate its first Culture and Arts Week starting on June 25.

This is a great chance to celebrate both culture and the Arts at Katikati College while developing house spirit through the competitions and events taking place over the week. Students are encouraged to sign up with their House Captains to get involved in some of the smaller events.

The week starts of with a Pasifika dance competition. The whole House will have been taught the dance by members of our Pasifika group by then. Participating students will compete for the opening honours and house points for the week.

Monday night will see our Matariki Pō Whakangahau & Hangi, celebrating success and achievement of our Māori students.

Tuesday is based around Lip Sync. There are changes to the format this year to not having just our usual senior and junior competition but also a House category. Lunchtime will be sound checks for the House groups for the evening competition starting at 7.00 p.m. in the Katikati College Hall. Entry is $5 for College students and adults and free for preschool and primary students.

Wednesday is about pavement chalk art. Participating students will have period four to create their House's masterpiece before judging at lunchtime. (This event is weather dependent.)

Thursday is the big day for the inter-house competition. Students will perform the school waiata and a House song in their House colours in the Action Centre during period 5. We are looking forward to a loud display of school pride and House spirit. This will be followed by the Year 12 Drama production, "Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui", starting at 7.00 p.m. in the College Hall. Gold coin donation for entry.

Friday is an international mufti day - so drag out your international heritage costumes and dress up accordingly. Spot prizes for best international outfits will be awarded throughout the day. We finish the week with a international food market run by the senior business students at lunch, so Friday is also a great day to bring money to purchase the tastes and smells of the wider world.
