Katikati College squash players continue to do well at all levels due in no small part to efforts of Teacher in Charge Rebecca Astwood, Junior Convenor, Karen Clement and the strong support of the Katikati Squash Club.

Katikati College did well in the Matamata under 23's squash tournament.

Dan Astwood came runner up in his division and Cole Clement and Owen Whalley received the special plate for their respective divisions.  Katikati also did very well in the Mount Maunganui Open with both Dan Astwood and Owen Whalley coming runner up in their divisions, while over at the Te Puke Open Glenn and Katie Templeton won their divisions.

Glenn Templeton and Katie Templeton were both selected for the Quadrangular tournament for BOP against Waikato and Auckland. Glenn won all of his games and Katie won 2 out of 3 games. The team lined up first against close neighbours Waikato to decide the winners of the BOP Waikato Junior Shield. In a very close tie, the Bay team retained the shield by beating their competitors 11 matches to 9. Next they took on the Far North and again the Bay triumphed with a score of 12-8. That left a very strong Auckland team in BOP's way on Sunday morning. After they brushed aside the other two regions, Auckland proved too strong again this year despite a valiant fight - BOP going down 5-15. Coach Robbie Wyatt was happy with the weekend and felt the team performed well. "The kids were well behaved on and off the court, and while we couldn't take the overall title, I was pleased with the performances of all our players. They represented the region with pride".

The club is really building and there is plenty of opportunity for young players to have a go.

Any student who is interested in trying squash is encouraged to speak with Mrs Astwood at school.
