2015 NIWA Science Fair

Hilary Johnson —

The College's best Science Fair projects were exhibited at the NIWA Bay of Plenty Regional Science Fair in Rotorua.

This year, for the first time, Science Fair was not compulsory for Years 7-9, and we have been pleasantly surprised at how many students chose to complete and submit a project.  The students who travelled over with their exhibits to represent us were: Joshua Macdonald, Melissa Hurne, Roelien Du Plessis, Andrew Hannagan, Jared Hurst, Jack Davison, Griffin Fraser and Sophia Spurr. They are all to be congratulated for being selected and the following students are also to be congratulated on winning prizes as follows:

Jared Hurst (Year 7), Highly Commended in Intermediate Technology, with a project showing how a parabolic reflector can help boost a WiFi signal;

Jack Davison (Year 10), Highly Commended in Junior Secondary Science, with an investigation into methods of keeping the interior of a chilly bin cool;

Roelien Du Plessis (Year 10), Second Prize in Art in Science, with a model of an animal cell showing its organelles.
