Year 8 Technology

Hamish Carr —

Year 8 classes have had a great start to 2022, with all working on a wooden puzzle project.

The first puzzle is a classic and many parents will recognise the parts from their childhood (or maybe I am showing my age). Students have explored how to plan and cut the pieces, sand and prepare the parts for gluing and finally finish with a coat of fabric dye. Magic! The Soma Puzzle, as it is known, dates back to the 1930s. There are over 200 different objects that can be made from the seven pieces. The next project is a geometric puzzle which provides more freedom and creativity to the students. It is fantastic to see them engaging in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, drawing and language through contextual learning.
