Exciting Times in The Arts

Sonia Bullot —

Katikati College Music Department

It has been a very busy time in the Music Department this term with lots of events and students busy rehearsing and preparing hard for these and our seniors preparing for their NCEA music assessments.

Katikati Mural Town Singers Musical Excerpts Concert

We were invited to have two of our lead singers in our Moana Production join with the lead singers from Waihi College’s Grease Production to perform with the Katikati Mural Town Concert on the 6th of August at St Paul's Church. Manase Uilou did a superb rendition of A Million Dreams from the Greatest Showman and Jasmine Tocher wowed the crowds with a moving performance of ‘On My Own’ from Les Mislerables. This was greeted with a full house standing ovation and both Jasmine and Manase represented our college well by participating in and supporting this community group.

KKC’s Got Talent

On Thursday 17 August Katikati College students put on a dynamic and entertaining talent show involving 24 acts that covered a variety of genres and acts showcasing the diverse and wide talent that Katikati students have to offer within the Arts .

This event was run by the Year 13 Arts Captains and judged by Jorja McKewon, Jojette Drost and Kylie Backhouse-Smith. Their job was extremely hard due to the high performance and skill level. This event captured the student’s interests, diversity and individuality in their item selections which ranged from instrument soloists, acting, dance either within solo, small or large groups which included the Katikati College Kapa Haka Group and Concert Band.

Thank you to our school and wider community for your enthusiastic support, cheering our students on and celebrating their successes.
