Following a NZ National Title in Oct 2016 and selection to the NZ training camp in Feb 2017, Lesen Huiarangi went to Christchurch to compete in the 2017 Canterbury Open.  

Lesen won Gold in the U81kg competition and Gold in the Open Mens (14 – 17yrs) competition. The final was a classic; continuous attacks, furious floor work, but with beautiful timing and a slick counter. Lesen won with ‘ippon’.
