Year 13 student Katie McCormick recently achieved 2nd Degree Black Belt, (Nidan grading), in Karate.

At the same event she was awarded the Senior Female Budo Award in recognition of her contribution to the sport. Katie teaches karate to members of the Katikati community  in the College Meads Gym.

Katie started learning Kiaido Ryu karate when she was seven years old. Next year at university she will probably not be able to access Kiaido Ryu and will have to switch to another type of karate, but she will continue to teach Kiaido Ryu during her breaks.
