Welcome to our new staff
We welcome four new staff.
Kia ora. My name is Liam Kortegast and I am teaching in the Year 7/8 team this year. I am originally from Tauranga and completed my study at the University of Waikato majoring in Sport and Recreation with a Graduate Diploma in Teaching Primary. I have been teaching in Queenstown for the past 5 years with Year 7/8 students. My wife and 7 month old son moved back to the Bay of Plenty at the start of the year and I am excited to continue my teaching at Katikati College. My teaching passions include visual art, literacy and PE. I enjoy spending time in the outdoors with my family and friends and you will normally find me surfing at the beach.
Kia ora, I’m Shannon Dean and I’m teaching Drama, Dance and English. I’ve recently moved up from Wellington and am loving the beautiful sunshine up here. I love all things in the arts and have a love for music as well. My background is in Māori and Pasifika dance and I’ve also had a range of experience/study in Drama, Music and English. I am passionate about performance, productions and giving lots of opportunities for students to get involved. I enjoy exploring the beautiful Bay of Plenty whether it's swimming, biking or walking. I also have a love of cooking and delicious food.
Kia ora. My name is Timothy Hyslop and I am teaching Social Studies and History. I am a born and bred South Islander, having lived mainly in Geraldine, Wanaka & Dunedin. I have just moved up to the Bay of Plenty this summer and I am loving it so far. Apart from a deep passion for New Zealand history I also love the outdoors. I try to get up into the mountains as much as possible and I enjoy rock climbing and mountain biking. It's a joy to be a new part of the team at Katikati College, and I’m excited about all the opportunities this new school presents!
Kia ora! My name is Colette Lemon. I am lucky enough to be the new Librarian at Katikati College. I have long been passionate about reading, inspiring readers and supporting literacy in schools and have spent the last ten years at Katikati Primary School with this focus. I have lived in Katikati for many years with my husband, three (now) adult daughters and a large menagerie. When I don't have my nose in a book you will find me somewhere outdoors - horse riding, camping, gardening or developing our lifestyle block. I'd love to hear from whānau/ caregivers about how I can help support your students' literacy in our school and help inspire a lifelong passion for reading!
