Year 7 and 8 Art Gallery and Library Trip

Linda Hammonds —

Recently the Year 7/8 classes all went for a trip to the Tauranga Art Gallery and Library. The exhibition that we went to see at the Art Gallery was by an artist called Kelcy Taratoa.

Taratoa is of Ngāi Te Rangi and Ngāti Raukawa descent. Taratoa's artworks explores and reflects on important themes such as cultural identity, social history and the environment, all relevant to our Term 1 inquiry theme. After learning a lot about his art we then all took part in a workshop to create our own art, inspired by Taratoa’s art. We used masking tape and paint to create images. The artwork showed us how effective and simple an idea can be to create something abstract and amazing! We also visited the library where we performed a play and enjoyed the many resources that the library has to offer.

Thanks so much art gallery and library staff for having us, we had a really fun time and learned lots!
