Fiefia Night

Vetekina Pekipaki —

Friday, August 30 was a night of celebrating cultures, dance, and the success of our Pasifika students at Katikati College.

The pictures below only begin to describe how outstanding this year's Fiefia Night was. Praise goes to our Almighty God for his guidance and love that He blessed our Pasifika group with.

We are very grateful to Koroseta Tuimaualuga (Samoan Faife'au), Amini Vuki (Tongan Faifekau), and Simione Vakasiuola (Tongan Setuata) for blessing our night with prayers, the only thing in our Pasifika culture that we believe holds things together. We began with God and we finished with Him.

There were three very important people who made this year's Fiefia Night such a memorable one, namely Zoya Tikena, Finau Fanua, and our Deputy Head Girl Irene Vakasiuola. These three beautiful young ladies couldn't have done it without the guidance and support of their wonderful families!

Zoya, Finau, and Irene's guidance and leadership of their younger Pasifika members was spectacular and it shone through every aspect of Fiefia Night, from the performances, costumes, food to the decoration of the hall! They should be very proud of the stunning night that their families helped them plan. Our Pasifika group are so thankful to our Year 13's brave Mamas and Papas for paying for and making ALL the costumes, food and hall decorations. This is a year we will never forget! All glory to God!

This year our Deputy Head Girl, Irene Vakasiuola spent a lot of time and money on creating some Pasifika Awards. Her hope in making these awards is to encourage her Pasifika peers to try hard in school and to do the best that they can in working towards a bright future for themselves and for their families. Irene has shown substantial leadership in school this year, especially in Pasifika. Irene is going to gift the school with donations of money yearly, so that these awards are given with "pale." Thank you Irene for the wonderful awards that you have blessed us with. Your legacy will continue to live on at Katikati College. Ke kei langilangi'ia pe 'ae 'Eiki.

At Katikati College we have so many  staff who turn up year in and year out and we are so very grateful for their support. This year was the year with the most staff attending and it showed on the faces of our kids how much they appreciate the efforts their teachers were trying to make. Our kids are so blessed to go to a school that not only supports their cultures but also shows a genuine interest in trying to better their education and school life. Thank you to all the teachers who helped with costumes and music, and for letting students out of class to practice and to prepare for Fiefia Night. What a wonderful school we have!

Big thanks go to our school Principal, Carolyn Pentecost. From the day she became a part of our school she has shown our kids her support, care and love and we really appreciate her efforts in trying to best help our Pasifika students and community.

A shout out to Jessica-Lee Main for the beautiful photos she took of our students and to Mrs Fleming for videoing the event.

Malo 'aupito to ALL of our beautiful Pasifika group kids! They were the reason we were able to celebrate such an event. They gave us excitement, entertainment and a Fiefia Night to remember!

My hope is that our rising leaders for the years to come will learn from the leadership that was displayed by our three wonderful leaders this year. Unity, care, and love.
