Year 9 - 13 Reporting

Ian Nicholson —

This term we are trialing a new fortnightly report system to parents of Year 9 to 13 students. This will replace our reports that would normally go out once in Term 1 and Term 3. We believe that this regular reporting system will be more meaningful for parents and improve connections between school and whanau which is vital for each student’s ongoing learning and success.

Each fortnight teachers will use a 1-5 grading system based on the engagement of your son/ daughter during those two weeks.

We consider engagement to be a range of factors including students being:

  • actively engaged in the lesson;
  • working collaboratively with others;
  • supporting the learning environment;
  • coming to class prepared.

The grading system teachers will use is:

  • Grade 5 | Well above expectations
  • Grade 4 | Above expectations
  • Grade 3 | Meets expectations
  • Grade 2 | Below expectations
  • Grade 1 | Well below expectations

Our expectation is that students will achieve grades 3, 4 or 5.

If a student is marked at a Grade 3 then they are on track and working at the expected standard. If a student is engaged at a higher level than most students then they will gain either a 4 or 5.

If a student is marked as a Grade 1 the subject teacher will have made contact with you. A blank in the grade column means that either the student or the teacher was absent from the school for a substantial part of the fortnight.

These reports will be available to parents on the College Parent Portal on:

  • Friday 3rd March
  • Friday 17 March
  • Friday 31 March

More information will be sent to you early next week.
