Another strong showing by the Katikati Sailors in the BOPSAT regatta held earlier in the month. Three Katikati College students, Ben Tanner, Anouk Sayer and Liam Davison make up half the combined team with the other sailors coming from Otumoetai College. The team got off to a fantastic start with a win against Tauranga Boys College. Unfortunately this lead was undone in the very next race losing to Mount Maunganui College. The team picked themselves up and won all the remaining races to tie with Tauranga Boys College on wins for the round. This provided the perfect result for a final race between the two teams, with TBC coming out victorious.

I am amazingly proud of our team and their efforts on the water, they never give up and support each other fully. Teams racing is a challenging environment to race in with combinations of placings determining the winning team, in close racing you may see yachts "trapping" opposition yachts at marks using the rules of sailing to force the opposition yacht off course, or slow their progress to allow their own team an opportunity to take advantage and sail past. It is very exciting to watch.
