Shave for Cure raises over $10,000

Cam Hankins, Head Boy —

On April 13 Hamish Lorney, Mrs Pentecost and I shaved for a cure along with many others in the Action Centre at school.

When we first thought of doing the shave, we didn't really know what we were getting into, but when Mrs Pentecost said that she would also shave her head if we raised $6000, we had a serious motive and we did everything we could to reach that goal.

Our fundraising idea came about because Hamish’s mum passed away from breast cancer two years ago. Hamish left school seven months ago to do a building apprenticeship but he and I have been best mates all through College. Both of us are surfers and have had long hair for years.

On the day of the head shave it was so cool to see almost the entire school coming into the Action Centre to support us. We were blown away by the support, the donations and other people who joined in and shaved their heads too! We raised a total of $10,674 and we couldn't have done it without the support from everyone. It was a perfect way to end the term.
