Juliet Dunlop-Fraser —

Katikati College sent a big team of competitors to the BOP Zone Champs held at Waipuna Park on Wednesday 21st June.

As a qualifying event for the Baywide Interschool Champs, this is always a fiercely competitive day over the mostly flat Waipuna course.

Once again top seeds Daniel and Sean Nicholson took out the Year 8 Boys in first and second place respectively with Luke Spurr running a brilliant race to hold on to 3rd.  Thomas Swain also ran well to finish 8th.

An excellent showing from the Year 8 Girls saw Jadah Mackay (7th), Emily Ashley (8th), Mikaela Salmon (11th) and Chantelle Wenzlick (15th) all go through to the next round.

In the Year 7 Girls,  Gemma Groenewald ran hard to go through in 3rd place along with Meg Harray who finished strongly in 7th.

Brayden Mair was the only Year 7 Boy to qualify, just getting through at 15th.

Well done to all our runners.
