Successful Blood Drive

Graeme Vallely —

On Wednesday, July 28 the NZ Blood Service came to Katikati College to run a Blood Drive organised by Year 12 Student Lavleen Kaur.

Lavleen has been nominated to attend a Aspiring Young leaders course which runs over 2 years. Part of the course is to show leadership within the school environment. After speaking with her Dean, Mr Vallely, it was decided to organise a Blood Drive. Lavleen arranged for a representative from NZ Blood to come and meet to discuss how to run the event. Unfortunately school holidays were not factored into the organising time frame. This meant that what was supposed to be two weeks of lead in had to be done in two days. Lavleen took this in her stride and pulled off a great day. 52 Year 11 to 13 students stepped up and a number of staff made up the numbers. It was great to see Year 13 House Captains step in to help serve refreshments to those who donated. Many thanks to students and staff for supporting this great cause.
