Celebrating 45 Years of Excellence in Education and 30 of those Years at Katikati Primary . . .
As we bid farewell to our esteemed Deputy Principal, Anne Morriss, we reflect on her incredible 45-year career dedicated to education. Anne's journey began in Wellington in 1980, navigating a competitive job market to teach across various schools and year levels. By 1985, she was appointed Team Leader at Wainuiomata School, and from 1989 to 1994, she served as Deputy Principal.
Anne's passion for literacy led her to train as a Reading Recovery teacher in 1991. In 1995, she moved to Katikati to buy an orchard and joined Katikati Primary School (KKPS) as Team Leader. By 2000, she was leading two large teams, and in 2005, she became Deputy Principal at KKPS.
Anne's career spans the transformative decades of the '80s, '90s, and 2000s, where she cherished the ability to truly teach and connect with her students. She witnessed the changing social landscapes and the increasing diversity in KKPS, contributing to the school's growth and inclusivity. Anne takes pride in seeing her former students now teaching at KKPS, a testament to her impactful career.
Her dedication extended beyond the classroom. She worked with families, coordinated events like Ag Day, and fostered community involvement. Anne's literacy leadership has left a lasting legacy at KKPS, supported by community organizations like Lions and Rotary. As an Associate and Mentor teacher, she nurtured the next generation of educators.
Anne's roles included overseeing Years 0-3, managing bus runs, coordinating the Breakfast Club, and supporting the Seasons for Growth program. Her work with educational trends, such as the Better Start Literacy Approach, showcases her commitment to evolving teaching methods.
Anne highlights projects like the new Junior playground funded by Grassroots Trust and initiatives like the walking school bus and library engagement. Her efforts in securing BSLA training for teachers ensure a strong future for literacy at KKPS.
Anne's career is marked by dedication, innovation, and community spirit. As she retires, she looks forward to a new chapter with jubilation. We extend our deepest gratitude for her exceptional service and wish her all the best in her well-deserved retirement.
