2024 Student Librarians

What's Been Happening in Our Library?

WOW 17,080 books issued to our children!

"We've had a really great year in the KKPS Library this year! This year we issued 17,080 books in our school library, including 13,156 fiction books and 3,924 non-fiction books. Students in Rooms 12, 11 and 10 borrowed the most books this year, with Room 12 borrowing 1,121 books, Room 11 borrowing 934, and Room 10 borrowing 874. It's so great to see so many young readers among our school community!

This year we hosted eight visits with the public library as part of the Bookworms Book Club, did a visit to the public library with our student librarians, introduced a Craft Club in Term 2 (with workshops in pom-pom making, tapestry weaving and book-binding), ran a busy Winter Reading Challenge and hosted the incredible author / illustrator Donovan Bixley, who ran two inspiring illustration workshops and gave a presentation to our Year 3 - 6 group. Donovan's visit was a highlight for many, and we'll be having another author visit next year, so stay tuned for details (with thanks to Read NZ for enabling these opportunities!). We also had another very successful Scholastic Book Fair and Book Character Day this year, the result of which is lots of beautiful new books for our tamariki. Thank you very much to our community for your generous support!

In Week 8 this term, we hosted a Christmas Cookie Decorating party for our Year 6 student librarians, who have made such important contributions to our running of the library this year. It was really wonderful to have an opportunity to celebrate them and all the hard work they have done. It's been such a delight getting to know them, and I wish them all the very best as they head off to Year 7 next year!

It's been a pleasure to witness so many children discovering the magic of stories this year, and I'm looking forward to another great year next year. I want to take this opportunity to wish all our children and their whanau a very happy holiday season! Ngā mihi o te Kirihimete ki a koe!"
